I created this pastel artwork depicting Spanish moss draped cypress trees growing along the bank of the Waccamaw River using soft pastels on a neutral taupe colored paper. This river runs through eastern South Carolina and this particular image is based on the area of Conway, SC. My style in this artwork is loose and somewhat similar to the Impressionists of whose work I am very fond. Autumn colors dominate with vivid orange and yellow ochre and a bit of blue sky showing above the forest. This is a beautiful area to visit at any season of the year and stroll along the scenic River Walk. I love the way the cypress roots grow right down to the riverbank and are reflected in the dark waters of the stream.
