Description
An unusual looking bird, the roseate spoonbill, is seen looking down into water in this artwork created in soft pastels. The most prominent feature of this wading bird is its large bill that has a curved end like that of a spoon. It also has feathers in wonderful shades of pink, and like the flamingo, this is due to a diet rich in carotenoids as found in shrimp. These birds are native to the US Southeast region.
