The mythical unicorn is the subject of this artwork in soft pastel on brown tinted paper. This particular creature is depicted as a gray and white horse with vivid purple accents and a gold hued horn. The beast’s head is bowed forward with the horn pointing downward. The unicorn has been a legend among many cultures throughout history and is usually pictured with a spiral horn but I chose to make my unicorn with a smooth horn. Unicorns may also be a symbol of purity and grace.
I have composed this short story to accompany the image:
“Are unicorns real, Grandma?” asked the little girl in the ruffled pink sundress as she dangled her bare feet from the creaky wooden porch swing that the two were companionably sharing on a bright afternoon while bees were busy in the flower beds and hummingbirds flitted to and from a feeder hanging at the nearby corner of the roof. “Of course they are real.
