In Chinese and other Asian folk tales, there is a white rabbit that lives on the moon and pounds herbs with a mortar and pestle. There are also some similar Native American tales about this rabbit. There is a configuration of craters on the moon’s surface that can be seen as resembling the shape of a rabbit. In my version, the rabbit is posed with the full moon in the background and a small mortar and pestle nearby. The work is created in soft pastel hues with a pale yellow moon along with blue and purple accents on a dark gray tinted paper.
