A pretty pink poinsettia is the subject of this artwork in soft pastel done on a pale taupe tinted paper. The poinsettia is a plant traditionally used as a Christmas holiday floral decoration in the United States although it is in fact a native of Mexico. It was introduced to the US by Joel Roberts Poinsett. The leaves are green and can be pink, white or red depending on the cultivar while the actual flower is a small central blossom that opens from a cluster of buds.
